Augustana's 'Entertainment Tonight' Legacy Lives On

Mary Hart '72 is known more for her famous legs and her 29-year-long career as co-host of TV’s “Entertainment Tonight” than attending Augustana College. She retired from ET in 2011 and shortly thereafter, another Viking joined the crew at the famous Hollywood news show — as an intern. (Hart's manager had her legs insured for a total of $2 million dollars).

Jenny Brown ’13, a Spanish and business administration major, has interned at the show twice, and is now working there full-time at the news desk.

“I've been a fan of TV, music, and movies since before I can remember,” Brown said. “I used to want to be in front of the camera as an actress, but have since learned that there is so much more that goes on in entertainment that people don't see and it's all very exciting.”

She was also recently involved with a reality television show.

“Aside from my job with ET, I worked on the pre-season interview junket for the new Big Brother show,” Brown said. “I was a production assistant and worked alongside a producer getting our set ready, helping create a shoot report with interviews from the cast, and even doing a few interviews myself. “

A native of Omaha, Neb., Brown is enjoying life in Los Angeles, Calif.

“My favorite part about living in LA would be the weather: every day is like paradise,” Brown said.
“I also love the people out here. Everyone is so open-minded and free-spirited. You are never the craziest or weirdest dressed person anywhere. People seem to just be very relaxed and accepting and it makes it easy to fit right in.”

Whether in front of the camera or behind the scenes, “Entertainment Tonight” has had an Augustana Viking on its team for over 30 years, most recently, Kelly Nyberg in 2009.
