Forbes Gives Top Marks to Sioux Falls, Augustana

A leading source for business news and analysis has given high marks to Sioux Falls and Augustana College in two of its most recent rankings.

Forbes has ranked Sioux Falls the No.1 "Best Small Places for Business and Careers."

With a population of 238,000 and a median household income of $55,684, Forbes called Sioux Falls the "cultural center of South Dakota," and said its economy "has become greatly diversified and more service-based over the last half-century, making the city an important location for financial services, health care, and retail trade. Downtown Sioux Falls plays host to a Sculpture Walk, Festival of Bands, Lifelight Festival, Party in the Park, the Sioux Empire Fair and Jazz Fest. Notable landmarks in the area include the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science, the Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum and the memorial to the WWII USS South Dakota. The city is also home to many parks including Terrace Park, McKennan Park, Sherman Park and Yankton Trail Park."

In addition, Forbes included Augustana among its recent "America's Top Colleges" rankings for 2013, a listing of the nation's 650 top schools based on student satisfaction, post-graduate success, student debt, graduation rates and nationally competitive awards.

Earlier this month, Augustana also was ranked among the "best colleges in the Midwest" by the Princeton Review.
