Class of 2017 Arrives on Campus

The Class of 2017 is here!

Carrying rolls of carpet, futons and stacks of plastic tubs, members of Augustana's freshman class arrived on campus on Sunday to settle into their new rooms inside Bergsaker and Solberg Residence Halls.

The Class of 2017 includes men and women from 19 states and 18 different countries around the globe, including new roommates Melissa Barella (Centennial, Colo.) and Lauren Bobst (Iowa City).

The two met for the first time Sunday morning, although they had connected on Facebook and have been communicating via text messages for the past several months. Both are biology majors and both will be members of the Track team.

As Barella and Bobst unpacked, the hallway outside their room was whirling with other new students, family members and dozens of student ambassadors from Augustana's New Student Orientation (NSO) team who worked throughout the day to assist the new freshmen move into their rooms.

Following move-in, freshmen will attend orientation and have dinner with President and First Lady Rob and Angie Oliver.

The College will officially open the 2013-14 academic year at Opening Convocation at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
