Augustana Grad Studies Icefish in Antarctica

Earlier this spring, alumnus Braeden McCluskey spent time conducting research in Antarctica, as a part of his Ph.D. program at the University of Oregon. The 2009 grad studied icefish, concentrating on their bone loss and its relation to ailments like osteoporosis in humans.

Cathro Awarded Travel Grant

Sophomore Dillon Cathro, a double major in French and Spanish and a native of Omaha, Neb., has been awarded a Benjamin Franklin Travel Grant, an award of up to $1,500 to pursue academic studies or internships in France.

Six Named to Hispanic Honor Society

Michaela Bernard, Logan Bulock, Maria Cook, Kathryn Johnson, Amanda Knowler and Katherine Sturgeon have been inducted into the College's Upsilon Omicron chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society.

Six Inducted into French National Honor Society

Augustana students Laura Bane, Sydney Fleming, Sabrina Johnson, Madeline Nykamp, Megan Soe and Elle Onisciuc have been inducted into the College's Mu Alpha chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society.

Four Named to German Honor Society

Seniors Spencer Hopewell and Molly Kokesh, and juniors Andrew Gardner and Jeff Nielsen have been inducted into the Augustana chapter of Delta Phi Alpha, the national honor society for students of German.

Campus Community Supports Tornado Relief Efforts

"We hold our neighbors in Oklahoma in prayer today," said Dr. Rev. Paul Rohde, Augustana's campus pastor. Those interested in supporting relief efforts for the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma can bring donations or contributions to the Chapel of Reconciliation by Friday, May 24. Gifts will be forwarded via the Lutheran Disaster Response, a division of the ELCA.

Wright Op-Ed Examines IRS Scandal

An op-ed in "Echoes," the business history blog of Bloomberg View, by Augustana's Dr. Robert Wright, Nef Family Chair of Political Economy, argues that "the uproar over allegations of politically motivated investigations by the Internal Revenue Service shouldn’t be surprising."
