Students to Present Posters at National Symposium

Seventeen Augustana students will be presenting posters at the National American Chemical Society Meeting and Symposium March 21-25 in San Francisco, CA. All the Augustana students attending the conference were involved in summer research projects in 2009.

Three from Augustana Nominated for YWCA Awards

Three women from Augustana are among the 54 nominees for the YWCA Tribute to Women Awards. The nominees include Dr. Julie Ashworth, asst. professor of Education; senior Jamie Horter from Bristol, S.D., and Joyce Stuelpnagel Nelson, retired professor of Nursing.

Augustana Basketball Featured on WCCO-TV in Minneapolis

Augustana College Viking basketball standout Cody Schilling and Head Coach Tom Billeter were featured on LifeTouch Media's "Life to the Max" show on Minneapolis' WCCO TV on Saturday, February 27. The show is hosted by WCCO radio and television personality, Mike Max.

Five Finalists Chosen for the Annual Concerto-Aria

Five Augustana students have been chosen to perform with the Augustana Orchestra for the annual Concerto-Aria to be held May 8 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. An outside panel of three judges selected the students during auditions held Sunday in Kresge Recital Hall.

Patrick Hicks Fifth Poetry Collection Published

Dr. Patrick Hicks, associate professor of English/Journalism at Augustana, has had a fifth poetry collection published. This London was published recently in the United Kingdom and Ireland and is now available in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.

Augustana Physics Professor Interviewed by SDPB

Dakota Life, produced by South Dakota Public Broadcasting, includes an interview with physics professor, Dr. Drew Alton. The segment focuses on the Davis-Bachall scholarship program at the Sanford Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory.

Alumni Involved in Creating "We Are The World" Web Site

Michael Lehmkuhl, Augustana class of ’97, and Stefan Hartwig, class of '99, partners at the Sioux Falls web development firm Electric Pulp, recently built the new “We Are The World” web site that premiered during the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Dr. Harry Thompson Named CWS Executive Director

Augustana President Rob Oliver has appointed Dr. Harry Thompson executive director of the Center for Western Studies (CWS). He succeeds Dr. Arthur Huseboe, who became director emeritus on July 31, 2009.

Brad Salem Resigns as Football Coach; Aldrich Named Successor

Football coach Brad Salem has resigned to take a position at Michigan State, coaching the running backs for the Spartans. Salem compiled a 31-26 record in five seasons as Vikings head coach. Defensive coordinator Mike Aldrich will succeed Salem.
