Forbes Ranks Augustana Among America's Top Colleges

Forbes ranks Augustana among "America's Top Colleges"

Forbes' 2016 Top College rankings consider key areas related to value, including student satisfaction, post-graduate success, student debt, graduation rate, and academic success. Augustana is ranked No. 93 in the midwest.

Augustana is again ranked in Forbes' listing of "America's Top Colleges," a ranking of the top 660 colleges in the U.S.

Among schools in the Midwest, Augustana comes in at No. 93.

The ranking, Forbes says, correlates directly to value.

"It is our answer to the debate over whether higher education is worth it: For these outstanding institutions, we give a resounding yes."
— Forbes Report Methodology

"This list of 660 schools distinguishes itself from competitors by our belief in ‘output’ over ‘input.’ Meaning, we’re not interested in what gets a student into college, like our peers who focus heavily on selectivity metrics such as high school class rank, SAT scores and the like. Our sights are set directly on ROI: What are students getting out of college?" the report methodology wrote.

The report's rankings consider the following key areas:

  • Student satisfaction

    • At Augustana, student satisfaction routinely receives high scores thanks to a variety of support systems in place, including:
  • Post-graduate success

    • Due to its location in the state's largest city and because of partnerships with major businesses, health care organizations and regional nonprofits, Augustana students have unmatched access to hands-on learning opportunities, all of which create pathways to careers. The 98 percent placement rate for May 2015 grads is due in large part to the institution's focus on areas such as:
      • Undergraduate research
      • Internships and future entrepreneurship
      • Clinical work
      • Student teaching
      • Field work
      • Study abroad
    • 23 percent of recent grads attend graduate or professional school where major areas of study include medicine and health professions (52 percent); human services, education and seminary (17 percent) and the sciences (12 percent)
  • Student debt

  • Graduation rate

    • Augustana is dedicated to helping students graduate within four years:
      • 86 percent of Augustana graduates earn their degrees in four years
