Join a "Viking Voyage" to the Oberammergau Passion Play
Augustana friends are invited to join Augustana’s Director of Performing and Visual Arts Development, Brad Heegel ’76, on an 11-day “Viking Voyage” Alpine Europe tour. This trip includes a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the world-famous Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany.
The villagers of Oberammergau first performed the play depicting the last days of Jesus in 1634 in fulfillment of their promise to God for sparing them from the Black Plague -— it has been presented there every 10 years since then. The Passion Play is the longest running play in history and is presented against the beautiful backdrop of the towering Alpine mountains.
The tour departs on May 25, 2020, and will focus on some of the most beautiful parts of the world: Switzerland, southern Germany and Austria. Whether visiting medieval towns, driving through the breathtaking Alps or simply relaxing at a sidewalk café, travelers will experience the unique atmosphere and beauty of this region and its people.
In addition to time spent in Oberammergau, sites will include Heidelberg, the oldest university town in Germany; Lucerne, with its beautiful 14th and 15th century covered bridges; Innsbruck and Salzburg, two picture postcard cities situated in the Alps; Munich, the capital of Bavaria; Neuschwanstein, King Ludwig’s fairy tale castle; and Rothenburg, Germany’s best preserved medieval town.
This tour is priced at $4,499 per person and includes roundtrip airfare, first class/select hotels, private homes/pensions in Oberammergau, most meals, Category 1 (First Class) admission tickets for the Passion Play, the services of a professional tour director and sightseeing in a deluxe motorcoach.
Tickets to the Passion Play go quickly and this tour is sure to fill quickly, as well. Deposits will be required prior to the end of 2018.
