Student Engagement and Residential Education provide leadership opportunities for students through various roles on campus. All positions contribute to individual and community development through relationship building and programming, though the specifics vary from role to role.

New Applicants

New applicants are students who have never applied to be a Viking Advisor, Viking Guide, or Welcome Week Committee member.

Application Process

  1. Attend one information session (dates listed in the important dates section below).
  2. Complete the online application form on Viking Central (available December 2, 2020). Submit your application form by Friday, February 5, 2021 at noon.
  3. Attend 3 Student Leadership Development workshops in February. You will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the 3rd workshop. Sign up for a workshop series at the time of application.
  4. Candidates indicating interest in a VA role will be contacted for an individual interview in February.

You are required to complete all steps in order to be considered for any of the leadership position.

Repeat Applicants

Repeat applicants are students who have applied in previous years, but were not offered a position.

Application Process

  1. Attend one information session (dates listed in the important dates section below).
  2. Complete the online application form on Viking Central (available Dec 2, 2020). Submit your application form by Friday, February 5, 2021 at noon.
  3. Since you've been through the Student Leader Development Workshop Series already, you'll only be required to complete an individual interview with a member of the Student Affairs team. You are welcome to participate in the SLD workshop series again, but it is not required of you!

Returning Applicants

Returning applicants are students who currently are or have previously been a Viking Advisor, Viking Guide, and/or Welcome Week Committee member.

Application Process

  1. Complete the online application form on Viking Central (available Dec 2, 2020). Submit your application form by Friday, February 5, 2021 at noon.
  2. Rehire Conversations and Individual Interviews
    1. All candidates indicating interest in a VA role will be contacted for an individual interview taking place between Monday, February 8 and Friday, February 12.
    2. Candidates interested in repeating their previous position of Viking Guide or Welcome Week Committee will be contacted if there are questions raised in the application. Candidates may also request a rehire conversation take place between January 5 and February 12.
