Nov. 28-29: Be The Match Registry Drive
Augustana will host a Be The Match® registry drive for potential bone marrow donors from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, and Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Siverson Lounge.
No appointments are necessary and it takes only 20 minutes to join the registry, which involves filling out a confidential registration and consent form, then submitting a painless cheek swab. Donors between the ages of 18 to 60 who meet health guidelines are encouraged to participate, especially racially or ethnically diverse donors. Doctors choose registry members ages 18-44 more than 90 percent of the time. Those between the ages of 45 and 60 who want to join the registry are welcome to do so online with a $100 tax-deductible payment. See more FAQs about joining the registry.
Be The Match® offers the unique opportunity to give a life-saving marrow transplant to someone in need. Thousands of patients with leukemia or other life-threatening disease depend on the Registry, the largest and most diverse registry in the world, to find a life-saving donor.
Currently, 70 percent of patients in need of a marrow transplant do not have a matching donor in their family.
- If one does not wish to register but would like to help, donations are accepted online.
- Registrants must have an ID and two contacts who Be the Match can contact if they can't contact the registered person.
