The first performance in the Poetry of Sound Festival will feature the world premiere performance of "Gitanjali," a work that pairs original music with poetry. The event will feature the Augustana Percussion Ensemble, led by Dr. John Pennington, with internationally known recording artist, performer and composer Cyprian Consiglio and the American Gamelan.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, in Kresge Recital Hall.

An Augustana Research and Artist Fund Presentation, "Gitanjali" (Song Offerings) is Rabindranath Tagore's poetry set to original music by Dr. Pennington utilizing the American Gamelan, a set of tuned metallophones and gongs housed at Augustana. The premiere coincides with the centenary of Tagore's Nobel Prize for "Gitanjali" which followed Tagore's translation of the text in 1912.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, and are free for students K-12 and those with an Augustana ID. Tickets are available at www.augietickets.com.
