Assistant Coach for Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving

Augustana University invites applications for an Assistant Coach for Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving. This is a 12-month position within our Athletic Department responsible for assisting with position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the sport program as well as possible additional responsibilities as assigned within the athletic department.

Major areas of responsibility:

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with all phases of the swimming and diving program.
Perform recruiting responsibilities as assigned by the head coach to meet the objectives of he university and team, including evaluation, contact, and establishing relationships with prospective student-athletes and coaches.
Assist head coach in all day-to-day operations of the sport program.
Coordinate student athlete activities including but not limited to recruiting, conditioning, and academic services as needed and designated by the head coach.
Teach classes assigned by the department with professional integrity and university expectations. ESS teaching assignment will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
Support, abide and enforce all academic guidelines and policies of the university, athletics department and swimming and diving program to ensure academic progress of the student-athlete as directed by the head coach.
Support and work cooperatively with the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, Equipment, Student Development, NCAA Compliance, Media Relations, etc. areas in accordance with department policies and procedures.
Assist with administrative functions of the swimming and diving program as directed by the head coach. Perform duties with professional conduct, being fiscally responsible and with a commitment to student-athlete well-being.
Abide by all written policies, procedures, and guidelines of Augustana University and the Department of Athletics. Understand and adhere to the Augustana Athletic Department Manual that outlines general staff conduct.
Build quality relationships and work collaboratively and professionally with athletics, university staff, students, and all constituencies and stakeholders.
Adhere to all NCAA and conference affiliated bylaws set forth by the governing bodies.
Perform any and all other duties as assigned by the head coach.
Organizing summer camps and clinics.
Organizing team travel.
Assisting in revenue generating.
Additional departmental duties as assigned.
Assisting with all other components of a competitive NCAA Division II swimming & diving program.
May be required to serve on committees and special projects.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required.
Preference will be given to those with college coaching experience.
Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
Must be able to work varying hours which may include days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree preferred.
Coached high school or collegiate swimming and diving.
Has participated in a high school or collegiate swimming and diving program.
Experience in recruiting qualified student-athletes.

Adhere to all NCAA and Conference affiliated bylaws set forth by the governing bodies.
Understand and adhere to the Augustana Athletic Department Manual that outlines general staff conduct.
Implement and monitor safe and effective strength and conditioning programs to improve physical performance for intercollegiate teams.
Test student-athletes to evaluate performance level and desired areas of improvement.
Design training strategies for injury prevention and improve sport specific performance.
Maintain accurate strength and conditioning records.
Instruct, educate, and supervises all student-athletes regarding proper weight training and flexibility techniques.
Instruct, educate, and supervises all student-athletes regarding proper weight training and flexibility techniques
Implement and monitor safe and effective strength and conditioning programs to improve physical performance for intercollegiate teams.

Qualifications

A BS/BA in exercise science or a health-related field and hold CSCS, SCCC, or USAW certification. Master’s degree preferred.
Must maintain certification through a nationally recognized strength and conditioning program.
Must maintain current certification in CPR and AED.
Experience in the field of Sports Performance with student-athletes in a collegiate setting.

Assistant Men’s Ice Hockey Coach

The Assistant Men’s Ice Hockey Coach provides administrative, instructional, academic and recruiting support services under the direction and supervision of the Head Men’s Ice Hockey Coach. Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations. Former Men’s Ice Hockey student-athlete is preferred.
Must be able to work varying hours which may include days, nights, weekends and holidays.
Minimum three years coaching experience in the sport of men’s ice hockey.
Experience in recruiting academically sound, qualified student athletes is desired.
Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.

AU Graduate Fellowship Position(s)

An Augustana graduate fellowship or scholarship is offered to students pursuing a Master of Sports Administration & Leadership (MSAL) who must execute 480 internship hours within the Augustana University Athletics Department. This is an unpaid position that offers a 50% tuition benefit, and is based on admission into the Augustana MSAL Program and completion of this application, including the required essay and an interview with a member of the athletics department. AU graduate fellowships are competitive with limited availability per area of interest. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree prior to starting the AU MSAL Program. Student-athletes and graduate assistants are not eligible for a graduate fellowship.

Athletics Marketing and Fan Experience Graduate Fellowship

Augustana University (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for an Athletics Marketing and Fan Experience Graduate Fellowship position, 12-month Master’s in Sports Administration and Leadership program, averaging 15 hours per week, within our Athletics department. This position includes a 50% tuition assistance.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Assist in developing and implementing marketing and promotions plans to increase ticket sales, game attendance and fan experience.
Assist with Strategic Partnerships and the planning, coordination and implementation of all game day activities and promotions including but not limited to:
- Public address scripts and timelines.
- In-game promotions and giveaways.
- In-game presentations sponsored by the University and/or the Athletics Department.
- Marching Band performances.
- Spirit – Cheerleaders, Dance Team, and Mascot.
- All other game day related activities.
Assist with fulfillment of sponsorship agreements.
Assist with strategic marketing plan for Division I Men’s Ice Hockey program.
Serve as a point of contact in athletics for the Viking Marching Band.
Works with Marketing & Fan Experience with the planning and execution of the Viking Kid’s Club.
Work with student-based clubs and community groups in order to increase attendance at athletic events.
Serve as the supervisor of Marketing & Fan Experience student interns.
Flexibility to work nights.

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
Relationship based sales experience, preferably in college or professional sports setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with customer service.
Experience with fundraising / sales.
Experience with hockey.
