Currently with 21 NCAA Division II sports programs, Augustana Athletics is focused on building champions in the classroom, in competition and in the community, highlighted by three team national championships since 2016. Viking Athletics finished #7 nationally in the Division II Learfield Director’s Cup in 2021-22 and also won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All Sports Award.
Graduate Fellowship for Athletic Marketing and Fan Experience
Augustana University (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for a Graduate Fellowship for Athletic Marketing and Fan Experience, 12-month Master’s in Sports Administration and Leadership program, averaging 15 hours per week, within our Athletics Department.
An Augustana graduate fellowship or scholarship is offered to students pursuing a Master of Sports Administration & Leadership (MSAL) who must execute 480 internship hours within the Augustana University Athletics Department. This is an unpaid position that offers a 50% tuition benefit, and is based on admission into the Augustana MSAL Program and completion of this application, including the required essay and an interview with a member of the athletics department. AU graduate fellowships are competitive with limited availability per area of interest. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree prior to starting the AU MSAL Program. Student-athletes and graduate assistants are not eligible for a graduate fellowship.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Assist with management and contribute to athletic social media accounts by developing and posting engaging content that resonates with the Viking fan base, interacting with fans, analyzing performance metrics, and maintaining web pages for assigned sports to enhance reach and engagement.
Assist with creation of in-game promotions, fan engagement activities, and game presentation elements, including scripts, music, and video board content.
Assist with developing promotional strategies (i.e., athletic events, theme nights, and special events) to increase gameday attendance and enhanced fan experience.
Assist with collaboration of campus groups, local businesses, and community organizations to increase visibility and foster community involvement in athletic events.
Assist with fulfilling sponsor obligations, including executing promotions, recognizing sponsors during events, and ensuring proper signage and branding.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, sports management, communications, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience required.
Relationship-based sales and marketing experience, preferably in a collegiate or professional sports setting.
Experience in event planning, promotions, or game day operations.

Admission in the Augustana University MSAL Graduate Program.
Strong communication (written and verbal), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in computer application knowledge and demonstrates initiative.
