If I receive an outside scholarship, will I lose some of my financial aid?
Outside scholarships are stackable with Augustana Scholarships. This means we will not reduce the amount of scholarships you receive from us because you’ve earned additional scholarships for yourself.
If you file the FAFSA and accept federal financial aid (grants, loans or work study) we are required to keep your total financial aid within the overall cost of attendance. This means that outside scholarships could reduce the amount of total financial aid you’re eligible to receive. It’s possible that a student may no longer be eligible for subsidized loan, work study and/or all of their AU scholarships and grants because of the amount of outside scholarships received. This is usually a good problem to have!
Where can I find more outside scholarships?
Start as close as possible. Your school guidance counselor can be a good resource for community or school scholarship programs. If you are employed, your employer may have a scholarship program. Sometimes, students’ parent(s), grandparent(s) or guardian’s employer offers a scholarship program.
Is it worth it to apply for a scholarship?
Yes! If it takes five hours to find, apply for and earn one $500 scholarship, that equates to earning $100 an hour. For most students, that is well worth the time.
Are there scholarships for South Dakota students?
Yes! The South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship (with the Augustana match), Dakota Corps Scholarship, South Dakota Freedom Scholarship, Premier Grant and more can all be used at Augustana University.
