Biography
Dr. Kristin Grimes earned a B.A. in both kinesiology and German from the University of Colorado in 2005, then went on to earn a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Creighton University in 2009. Grimes sat for her ABPTS Board Specialty Exam in 2013 for neurologic rehab. She completed her 10-year neurologic clinical specialist recertification.
Grimes has 15 years of clinical experience in a wide variety of settings. At the beginning of her career, Grimes worked at an urban academic medical center in Denver in acute care, working with patients from the ICU through the continuum to inpatient rehabilitation. After five years in acute care, Grimes moved with her husband to Crested Butte, Colorado, and developed a new passion for the rural health care setting. Grimes is drawn to the unique challenges that rural health care offers and has enjoyed her experiences across the continuum of settings, diagnoses and age groups. Her scholarly interests involve better understanding the unique roles and potential highly positive outcomes when physical therapists serve as primary providers in management of concussions in the rural setting.
With an ongoing passion for teaching and learning, Grimes has served as both the site coordinator of clinical education and long-time clinical instructor at both of her hospital systems. She has worked hard to establish new academic partnerships, strived to break down barriers to PTs serving as clinical instructors and engaged at the state level in continuing education advocacy efforts. She serves as a leader both in her county and region for rural health clinical educators and decided to pursue a transition into academia in 2022. Since that time, she has served as an adjunct faculty member with the Tufts University Phoenix Hybrid DPT Program and University of Colorado DPT hybrid pathway.
Grimes resides in beautiful Crested Butte, Colorado, and enjoys a multitude of outdoor recreation pursuits. When she is not working, Grimes loves spending time in the mountains with her husband, two sweet boys and handsome chocolate lab.
