Biography 

Xenia Ling-Yee Chan joined Augustana University in August 2024 as an assistant professor of religion. She is completing her Ph.D. dissertation, “‘My Mother is My Grave’: A Transpacific Sinophone Archive of Horror in Jeremiah’s Confessions,” at Regis-St. Michael’s College at the Toronto School of Theology, University of Toronto. She earned a master’s degree in biblical studies from Tyndale University and bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Ottawa.

 

At Augustana, Chan teaches courses in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. Her previous teaching experience includes courses on Jeremiah, the Writings and Hebrew language. She has published in the Canadian-American Theological Review. She has also contributed book chapters to Advancing Models of Mission: Evaluating the Past and Looking to the Future (eds. Kenneth R. Nehrbass, Amita Arrington and Narry F. Santos) and Mission amid Global Crises – Academy, Agency, and Community: Perspectives from Canada (eds. Narry F. Santos and Rupen Das). She coedited, with Narry F. Santos, The Past, Present, and Future of Evangelical Mission: Academy, Agency, Assembly and Agora: Perspectives from Canada (Pickwick, 2022). Chan is an active member of the Society of Biblical Literature, Canadian-American Theological Association, Canadian Society of Biblical Studies, Catholic Bible Association, Institute for Biblical Research, Asian Pacific American Religions Research Initiative, Asian Theological Institute, and Pacific, Asian, and North American Asian Women in Theology and Ministry community.

 

Prior to becoming an academic, Chan was a journalist with the South China Morning Post. She also has pastoral experience with the Free Methodist Church of Canada and remains active on the boards of Servant Partners Mission and Foundation and the Dale Ministries.
