On March 11, 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) (Pub. L. 117-2). The ARP appropriated approximately $39.6 billion for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) and represents the third stream of funding appropriated for HEERF to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus. Taken together, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES Act) (Pub. L. 116-136), the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) (Pub. L. 116-260), and the ARP represent HEERF I, HEERF II, and HEERF III, respectively. The Student Aid Portion of funds received by Augustana totaled $1,625,890. Students who receive these funds may use the money for any component of their cost of attendance or towards any emergency cost due to coronavirus.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. You must be enrolled as either a full-time or part-time student for the Fall 2021 and/or Spring 2022 semester to receive one or both payments.
- All full-time and part-time students are eligible, including international students, refugees, asylum seekers, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients, other DREAMers and students studying abroad.
- There is no application for HEERF III funds.
- The FAFSA is not required to receive a HEERF III payment.
Fall Award Amounts and Disbursement:
- Full-time pell eligible undergraduate students will receive a first payment of $550; full-time non-pell eligible undergraduate students will receive a first payment of $450.
- Part-time pell eligible students will receive a first payment of $275; part-time non-pell eligible undergraduate students will receive a first payment of $225.
- Full-time graduate students will receive a first payment of $450; part-time graduate students will receive a first payment of $225.
- Payments are issued via direct deposit to the bank account provided by the student on the portal.
Spring Award Amounts and Disbursement:
- Full-time pell eligible undergraduate students will receive a second payment of $525; full-time non-pell eligible undergraduate students will receive a second payment of $425.
- Part-time pell eligible undergraduate students will receive a second payment of $250; part-time non-pell eligible undergraduate students will receive a second payment of $200.
- Full-time graduate students will receive a second payment of $425; part-time graduate students will receive a first payment of $200.
- Payments are issued via direct deposit to the bank account provided by the student on the portal.
Quarter 2 Fund Report (06/30/22)
As of June 30, 2022, all HEERF student grant funds have been issued to students. All funds are exhausted.
Quarter 1 Fund Report (03/31/22)
As of March 31, 2022, funds in the amount of $1,625,890 have been designated to 2,131 students based on the criteria outlined above. All students have been notified of their grant(s) of which 2,039 have been disbursed.
Quarter 4 Fund Report (12/31/21)
Augustana University signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certificate and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used the applicable amount of funds designated under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) (a)(1) to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students. Funds in the amount of $1,625,890 were issued to Augustana University on May 11, 2021.
Augustana University used Fall 2021 Census Day enrollment data to determine that 2,022 enrolled students were eligible for a fall grant. As of the end of Quarter 4 (12/31/2021), a total amount of $867,325 has been issued to students. Spring Census Day enrollment data was used to determine that 1,876 enrolled students were eligible for a spring grant. For both terms, students with exceptional need as determined by their Federal Pell Grant eligibility were prioritized and issued a larger grant amount.
