Academic advising is a collaborative teaching relationship between faculty academic advisors and students. It is based on shared responsibility. You can expect your advisors to articulate graduation requirements, be accessible, and understand university policies. Your advisors will also challenge and support you by affirming your abilities, sharing success strategies, and providing information about campus resources.
In return, faculty advisors invite students to be active learners who prepare for the discussion. You play an important role in scheduling an appointment, asking questions, sharing your aspirations, and managing your degree plan.
To prepare for your advising conversation, complete the items noted below. If you need further assistance, contact your respective Career & Academic Planning (CAP) Specialist in the Success Center or the Registrar’s Office.
- Verify your transfer credits and degree progress noted in your degree audit report. This reporting system is an automated report that matches the courses you have completed with the requirements of your chosen degree program(s). Your advisors will review this with you during each conversation to celebrate your degree progress. Log into My.Augie, then click on the Academics tab, followed by Academic Information to view your report. If you do not see a course noted that you completed at another institution, check with the Registrar’s Office and our Credit for Prior Learning Policies to confirm its equivalency.
- Confirm your major or minor. View your majors and minors in My.Augie to ensure they are accurate. If you need to change anything, log into your My.Augie account and the form will be located under the Academic Information on the Academics tab. To learn more about your options, visit department web pages or browse our career exploration resources.
- View the degree requirements published in the Academic Catalog. Designed to be a guide throughout your AU experience, this resource provides in-depth information on academic programs, policies, and requirements. View the Catalog.

- Chart your co-curricular engagement and experiential learning. Share your interest in internships, study away, or student organizations. Learn more about ways to apply your learning with AU’s program-specific major maps.
