In partnership with Augustana University and its brewing & fermentation minor, Augustana Athletics and Remedy Brewing Company are pleased to announce the launch of The Brew ‘N Gold — a crisp American lager. Viking fans will be able to purchase The Brew ‘N Gold beginning Saturday, Oct. 15, at Augustana’s Viking Days 2022 football game in JJ’s Beer Garden.
“The partnership with Remedy Brewing Company is a true definition of collaboration: academically, with athletics, alumni and the Sioux Falls business community,” Assistant Athletic Director for Strategic Partnerships and Director of the A-Club Emily Punt said. “We’re excited to work with Matt, Tyler and their team at Remedy to launch The Brew ‘N Gold.
“There’s no better week to kick it all off than Viking Days.”
Remedy Brewing Company, owned by Augustana alumni Matthew Hastad ‘08 and Tyler Jepperson ‘07, partnered with Augustana to create the perfect “stadium” beer. The name, Brew ‘N Gold, came from students in Augustana’s Beer, Bread & Brie course, taught by Assistant Professor of Biology Dr. Stephanie Bruggeman.
“The crisp American lager clocks in at a palatable 5.0% ABV and 15 IBU to create the perfect stadium beer to accompany Augustana’s victories,” Hastad, the co-founder and CEO of Remedy Brewing Company said. “A clean, bready malt flavor with a dry middle helps accentuate noble hops on the finish.”
Bruggeman shared her excitement from an academic standpoint and how involved students are in the process.
“The Brew ‘N Gold is the first in a line of beverages created, named and illustrated through collaboration between local breweries and students involved in the brewing & fermentation minor,” Bruggeman said. “Our program aims to teach the creativity, science, theory, impact, application and management of all things fermentation, which range from your favorite ales and root beer to vitamins and vaccines.”
The Brew ‘N Gold will be available for retail in cans with a label designed by one of the students, Cadence Stewart ‘25.
“Cheers to new beginnings, and connecting with old friends all over a crisp beer brewed for you, our Augustana family,” Hastad added.
JJ’s Beer Garden is located in the southeast corner of Kirkeby-Over Stadium. JJ’s Wine, Spirits and Cigars manages the beer garden including its professionally trained staff to ID and wristband those that are 21 and older. From the single-point of sale, new in 2022, fans are able to take their beverage back to their seats with the exception of the alcohol-free zones, notably sections 107, 108, 109, the northwest grass berm and section 202.
Kickoff for Saturday’s Viking Days contest with Wayne State is at 1 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit GoAugie.com/tickets.
