Augustana University is proud to announce the release of its newest podcast, Calling All Years Good. The seven-part podcast explores vocation throughout the many stages of life — from infancy to old age. Throughout 14 episodes, Campus Pastor Ann Rosendale interviews students, faculty, community members and Augustana President Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, unpacking big questions of identity and purpose, and inviting listeners to think about their own sense of call.
The podcast series is based on the book, “Calling All Years Good: Christian Vocation throughout Life's Seasons,” by Kathleen Cahalan and Bonnie Miller-McLemore. Each chapter of the book explores vocation throughout different stages of life, from childhood through old age. The authors gave permission to use the chapters of the book as a template for the podcast.
The podcast was produced in Augustana’s Studio 47, the university’s professional recording studio. It was written, recorded, and produced as a collaboration between Peter Folliard, director of orchestras; Katie McCollough, assistant professor of communication studies; and Ann Rosendale, campus pastor.
“Every person I interviewed spoke about the ways in which they have been shaped to care for the neighbor,” said Rosendale. “Whether it was 2008 grad Kari Lenander describing her front-line work with immigrants and refugees in El Paso, Texas, as the Executive Director of Border Servant Corp. Or Professor Emeritus Arlen Viste describing his care for his wife battling cancer. Or my three-year-old Arthur telling me what he wants to be when he grows up. This is what Augustana is about: nurturing servant-leaders who heed God's call to share their gifts with those in need. This isn't always easy. Sometimes it is difficult and scary. But every story shared in our podcast illustrates why living into vocation matters.”
The podcast is available now, just ahead of International Podcast Day on Monday, Sept. 30. In addition, South Dakota Public Broadcasting will host a celebration of Calling All Years Good, Poetry from Studio 47 and Augustana String Quartet: Happy Together — all productions of Studio 47, from 12-12:20 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30.
