Across the country and around the world, Augustana alumni are serving in ministry roles and living out the university's core values of Christian faith and service — from a seminarian in Rome and volunteer in Serbia to a hospital chaplain in Colorado and theatre camp director in Iowa. Alumni have served with organizations such as Athletes in Action, Border Servant Corps, Pan De Vida and Mission to the World.

‘A golden opportunity’: AU Students Named Global Finalists in 2021 Call for Code University Challenge
Augustana students Onajite Taire ‘22 and Gedion Alemayehu ‘22 are part of a team that was named a global finalist for the 2021 Call for Code University Challenge. Taire and Alemayehu, along with two students from Ethiopia and India attending New York University and PSG College of Arts & Science, made up one of AU’s teams. Yeabsira Lemma ‘21, Gideon Kassa ‘21 and Fraol Dechasa ‘22 made up the other. Competing in the global competition was a chance for students to make a tangible contribution to solving the world’s issues.
Augustana Alumnus’ Legacy Set in Stone After Unique Donation to Art Department
Fred Lawyer ‘76 completed an 18-hour drive to Augustana’s campus to make a donation. He drove a several hundred-pound stone cross country to donate it to Augustana's art department for printmaking — a limited, irreplaceable resource.
Augustana FYS Course Creates Gen Z Dictionary to Showcase Evolving Language
Professor of English Dr. Daniel Gerling discovered a new way to get his students engaged in the English language — by collaboratively creating a class dictionary, complete with slang words and phrases and emojis to demonstrate how language changes over time.
Four New Members Elected to Augustana University’s Board of Trustees
On Dec. 3-4, the Augustana University Board of Trustees installed four new board members. Joining the Board of Trustees for 3-year terms, beginning in January 2022, are Manaal Ali ‘20, Cheryl Collins, Andrea DeGroot-Nesdahl and Dr. Damien Fair ‘98.
AU’s Semester Shutdown Provides Stress Relief for Students Before Finals Week
Semester Shutdown is an annual tradition on Augustana’s campus that celebrates the end of a semester and provides stress-relieving activities for students prior to final exams. Coordinated by the Office of Student Affairs, the Saturday, Dec. 11 Semester Shutdown featured more than 20 activities for students to participate in before final exams began.
AU Student Earns National FFA Organization’s Highest Honor
Augustana student Jose Serna ‘24 was awarded the American National FFA Organization (FFA) degree in October — an honor earned by less than 1% of FFA members. The American FFA Degree is the organization’s highest honor, and was awarded to Serna at the National FFA Convention & Expo, held Oct. 27-30, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Kendall Cornick Receives Another Top Honor from the NCAA
Former Augustana softball student-athlete Kendall Cornick '21 added another national award to her mantle as she has been named a recipient of the 2022 Today’s Top 10 Award, presented annually by the NCAA.
