Campus Safety Services

Campus Safety Services at AU

The Augustana University Department of Campus Safety maintains 24/7/365 coverage of the campus community. Augustana Campus Safety officers are not sworn police officers and do not carry firearms. They are empowered to enforce AU policies and regulations, and can make a citizen's arrest under state law.

While the Sioux Falls Police Department (SFPD) has primary jurisdiction on campus, Campus Safety officers respond to student-related incidents on campus and work closely with the SFPD on any serious incidents, as well as assisting the department if an AU student is involved in an off-campus offense.

Bicycle Patrol Unit

Every year, a select group of Augustana Campus Safety officers participate in a bicycle training program taught by the SFPD. Bike officers have repeatedly demonstrated their value as a rapid response resource at football games, parades, concerts and numerous other special events on campus. The bicycle patrol offers immense benefit in terms of economy, efficiency, effectiveness and positive public contact.
