Parking Enforcement

Parking Citations

Parking citations issued by the City of Sioux Falls must be paid to the City of Sioux Falls.

Parking citations issued by the Augustana Department of Campus Safety are automatically billed to your student account. Campus parking citation fines should paid at the Business Office and a receipt will be issued at the time of payment. Failure to pay fines assessed against student vehicles will result in notification to the Registrar's Office to withhold all transcripts and grades until the obligation is paid. Fines double for third and all subsequent violations. If you have received three or more citations during the current school year, the fine listed on the citation is doubled.

Parking Fines issued by the Augustana Department of Campus Safety:

  • Handicapped* Zone | $50
  • Parking on Grass/Sidewalk | $30
  • Blocking Road/Driveway/Crosswalk | $30
  • No Permit/Improper Permit Displayed | $20
  • Parking in Fire Lane* or Delivery Area | $30
  • No Overnight Parking Zone | $15
  • Overtime Parking | $15
  • Other Parking Violation | $15
  • Towing for Special Events | $50

*Handicapped parking and fire lane violations are governed by city and state law. Violators may be cited/towed by Augustana or the City of Sioux Falls.

Parking Citation Appeals

Campus Safety works closely with the Augustana Student Association (ASA) to address parking questions and concerns from the student body. The president of ASA appoints a Parking Appeal Board each academic year, which consists of current students. The ASA Parking Appeal Board reviews the parking appeals filed by students, and has the authority to dismiss the ticket, require full payment or reduce the fine.

Appeals for a parking citation issued by the Department of Campus Safety MUST be filed within two weeks of receiving the citation

Left/Disabled Vehicles

Disabled vehicles must be removed from campus parking lots within a reasonable time, which includes all cars with permits. All other vehicles, including motorized scooters and motorcycles, are restricted to operating on the established paved/curbed streets. The university may tow any vehicle found to be abandoned or parked in a non-designated lot.

Snow Removal From Parking Lots

To accommodate students who do not have parking permits, Kirkeby-Over Stadium is available for students to park during city-issued snow alerts to avoid being ticketed and towed by the city. Once the streets have been plowed, students must move their vehicle so grounds crews can clear snow from the parking lot.

Other parking lots on campus will be plowed as needed and when possible. If an entire parking lot needs to be plowed, the Augustana Department of Campus Safety will post fliers around campus identifying when vehicles must be moved to accommodate the plowing of snow. Existing vehicles will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Campus Safety will send out emails and text messages via Viking Alerts when applicable.

All parking lots are subject to plowing during breaks and holidays. Any vehicle left on campus for an extended period (including Thanksgiving, Christmas or January Interim breaks) must contact Campus Safety to provide the department with vehicle information and receive information about where to park during that duration.

Towing of Vehicles

The Augustana Department of Campus Safety makes every effort to notify the owner of a vehicle before towing the vehicle from campus. When a vehicle has received multiple citations, a letter or email is sent to the registered owner, and a lime green decal is placed on the vehicle to warn the owner that future violations will result in the vehicle being towed at the owner’s expense. Vehicles parked in fire lanes or obstructing traffic may be towed immediately without prior notice to the owner.

Pay attention to Augustana’s notifications of special events taking place on campus. When towing for special events, a vehicle will be moved to an on-campus location — safe and away from the event area (i.e. Move-In Day, Viking Days, Boe Forum on Public Affairs, as well as football and hockey games).
