The faculty are those who have been granted status as faculty members by the Board of Trustees upon recommendation of the President. The faculty shall consist of teachers with the ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or Instructor, and any other designated by the President.

Job Title: Assistant Professor of American Sign Language

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Education

The Department of Education at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD, invites applicants for a full-time American Sign Language faculty position beginning August 2020. The Sign Language Interpreting Program at Augustana is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE). Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: Teaching assignment includes undergraduate courses in American Sign Language, working with colleagues in maintaining the Sign Language Interpreting Lab, advising and recruiting students, and providing service to the university and profession; and developing ongoing collaborations with schools, agencies and the community.

Qualifications: Earned Masters degree in Linguistics, ASL Teaching or related field, ASLTA Certification, previous teaching experience, experience in training interpreters, and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Native or near native fluency preferred.

Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
