Located on a beautiful campus in the heart of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Augustana University is home to a CCNE-accredited baccalaureate nursing program with over 300 nursing majors in traditional and accelerated degree options. Since 1940, the Department of Nursing has been a regional leader in preparing nurses, leaders, and administrators for hospitals and community health organizations. Sioux Falls (with a metro area of roughly 250,000) is a growing, vibrant, and increasingly diverse community that is home to several high-quality regional health care organizations who serve as partners to Augustana’s stellar programs.

Against this backdrop, Augustana University is seeking a visionary leader to serve in the role of Chair of the Department of Nursing beginning in January 2019.  The successful applicant will have an opportunity not only to lead an established program of excellent nursing faculty but also to work closely with senior leadership at the institutional level to explore and expand educational opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate levels in nursing as well as other health-related fields. The chosen candidate for this role will thus have significant leadership experience in nursing education and/or health care settings; experience with program development that involves innovation and collaboration; effective communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills; and an understanding of the opportunities and challenges affecting the discipline of nursing in particular and health studies in general.

In keeping with CCNE standards, the applicant must be a registered nurse, hold a doctorate in nursing and be eligible for RN licensure in the state of South Dakota; further, the applicant must have experience in baccalaureate nursing education and be well qualified academically and experientially to facilitate accomplishment of the mission, goals and expected program outcomes central to Augustana’s nursing programs.  Preference will be given to applicants with leadership experience in clinical health care settings.

The Nursing Chair is a full-time administrative faculty member who has leadership and administrative responsibility for the baccalaureate program, including coordination and participation in activities related to curriculum development, faculty recruitment and mentoring, student recruitment and retention, and program evaluation. The Chair ensures that the program meets all applicable regulatory, governmental, and accreditation standards. This individual will work closely with the senior leadership team to establish visionary programming, creative structuring, organizational innovations, and sustained growth in nursing and health sciences as Augustana embarks on the emerging and exciting 2030 Vision strategic plan.

Job Title: One-Year Faculty Position

Department: Education

The Department of Education at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD, invites applicants for a full-time faculty position beginning August 2019. This is a one year faculty position.

Responsibilities: Primary teaching responsibilities would include undergraduate courses in Foundations of Education and Human Relations. Potential online graduate courses would include one or more of the following areas:  educational issues, curriculum, introduction to research and assessment, diversity and/or history of education; and technology in education, or overseeing final graduate research synthesis projects.

Qualifications: Earned Doctorate or ABD in Education or a related area; three years of successful K-12 experience; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; and preferred teaching experience at the college/university level in both face to face and online courses.

Job Title: Assistant or Associate Professor

Department: Business Administration

Augustana University seeks to fill a 9-month full-time, tenure track position in the Business Administration Department at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Ideal candidates will hold a Ph.D. in business administration or related field. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching, scholarly and professional activities, and a willingness to be active in service to the university and community

Primary responsibility is to teach courses for the business administration degree, which may include accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, management, marketing, or management information systems. Strong preference will be given to candidates who have significant full-time teaching experience. Significant practical professional experience in a discipline-related field is desirable.

Job Title: Assistant Professor of Biology
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Biology

Augustana University invites applications for a continuing-track Assistant Professor position in the Biology Department beginning September 2019. This is a half-teaching/half-lab coordinator position. Candidates are required have a Master’s degree in a biology, preferably in microbiology or a related field. Alternatively, licensed Medical Lab Scientists are also eligible to apply.  A Ph.D. is preferred, but not required.

Teaching Expectations: Courses will be assigned based on departmental needs from semester to semester, but will generally include laboratory sections in microbiology, cell biology, genetics, and/or introductory biology. Responsibilities will include coordinating courses with multiple lab sections taught by other faculty.  Student academic advising is also an expectation. Ultimately, we seek someone with a demonstrated dedication to undergraduate education, a willingness to be flexible, and a commitment to innovative and excellent teaching. Summer teaching opportunities are also available if desired. Research is not an expectation for the position.

Augustana University invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2019-20 academic year.  The position will begin in August 2019.

Job Title: Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Department: Mathematics

Augustana University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Mathematics beginning August 2019. Applicants must hold a doctorate in mathematics at the time of appointment. Responsibilities include teaching a broad variety of undergraduate courses in mathematics, conducting an active research program, and participating in service to the university and the profession. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to a liberal arts education.

Teaching Expectations: Excellence in teaching is highly valued, and the use of innovative teaching practices and technology is encouraged.  Willingness to advise, develop, and work with undergraduate students is required.  The teaching load is 3-1-3, with 15-week semesters in fall and spring and a 3-week January term.

Research Expectations: Evidence of a commitment to and clearly developed plan for a research program and future professional development is required. Priority will be given to applicants with a plan for incorporating undergraduate students into their research program. The preferred candidate will direct individual students' work in undergraduate research and expository experiences.

Job Title: Assistant Professor of English

Augustana University invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track, Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of English and Journalism beginning in August 2019.

Responsibilities:  The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment. The ideal applicant will specialize in early and early modern British literature (6th to 18th century), with particular expertise in Shakespeare. S/he should also possess strength in post-colonial Anglophone literatures. In addition to teaching in the area of specialization, the preferred applicant should expect to teach courses in the FYS (First-Year Seminar) program, which includes emphases in composition and rhetoric; the SOPHIA (general education) program, which includes literature courses; and, possibly, the Civitas Honors Program.

The typical load for members of the department is three courses per semester, plus a course in two out of every three January terms.

Qualifications: Completed Ph.D. required.  Evidence of teaching excellence and scholarly productivity expected; willingness to engage in research and service; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and a commitment to serving the campus and broader professional community.

Title: Clinical Instructor Educator / Assistant or Associate Professor of Athletic Training
Position Type: Full - Time
Department: Exercise and Sports Science (ESS)

Augustana University seeks to fill a full-time position for Assistant or Associate Professor in Athletic Training. Our Athletic Training master’s program is housed within the growing department of Exercise and Sport Sciences (ESS) which includes over 200 majors in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Physical Education and Sport Management. Excellent opportunities exist for collaboration with educational partners, health care agencies, and research centers in the Sioux Falls area.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates will possess a terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Athletic Training or a related field. A commitment to quality teaching and active participation in the Athletic Training profession is necessary. Prior athletic training education administrative experience and experience in maintaining CAATE accreditation standards is preferred. Candidate must be a BOC certified athletic trainer and be eligible for licensure as an athletic trainer in South Dakota. Evidence of college level teaching experience is required. For a tenure-track appointment, the candidate must also demonstrate commitment to professional scholarship and the ability to involve undergraduate students in research.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will serve as the Clinical Instructor Educator (CIE) of our CAATE accredited master’s program in Athletic Training (ATP) and conduct Preceptor workshops for the clinical education instructors. The candidate will teach 15-18 credits of coursework per academic year including graduate courses in the ATP and one to two undergraduate courses to support our other majors in the department. Probable courses include, but are not limited to: Evaluation and Rehabilitation of Athletic Injuries, Medical Aspects of Sport, Administration in Athletic Training, Clinical Experiences in Athletic Training. The candidate will also coordinate student clinical rotations, evaluate clinical sites and document the student’s clinical learning experiences, develop and maintain relations and conduct frequent evaluations with contracted affiliated sites for the clinical education program, serve as preceptor for the ATP by supervising and evaluating students during their clinical experiences. In addition, the CIE will serve as an academic advisor and mentor for the athletic training students, work with admissions department to recruit prospective athletic training students, participate in the operational concerns of the institution and student community as defined in the faculty handbook, and perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Training Program Director. The successful candidate will report to the Department Chair of Exercise and Sport Science and the Chair of the Natural Science Division.
