The faculty are those who have been granted status as faculty members by the Board of Trustees upon recommendation of the President. The faculty shall consist of teachers with the ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or Instructor, and any other designated by the President.

Title: Spirits Squad Coach
Position Type: Part-Time
Department: Athletics

Augustana College seeks to fill a part-time position as Spirits Squad Coach overseeing both cheer and dance teams’ activities. The position will begin August 1, 2015.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the identification, evaluation and recruitment of potential dance and cheerleading student-athletes. Monitors the academic progress of each student-athlete in the program. Coordinates the physical development of each student-athlete through appropriate condition, strength, and practice sessions. Stands accessible to the media, alumni and general public to publicize and promote the program, in coordination with the Assistant Athletic Director of External Operations. Fiscally responsible for all areas of the spirit squad budgets, including budget proposal, accounting, and expenditures. Recommends and oversees the purchase of new spirit squad equipment, supplies and uniforms. Assists in the coordination of travel arrangements for road trips. Oversees the development of the schedule with the Assistant Athletic Director of External Operations and athletics marketing department. Supports the mission and vision of the College. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree preferred and prior experience as a head or assistant cheer or dance coach is preferred. A commitment to continued professional and scholarly growth is desired. A commitment to the mission and values of a church-related liberal arts college is expected.

Athletic and Academics Information:  Augustana College sponsors 18 athletic teams who compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and NCAA Division II. The Elmen Center is the home for the ESS program, which includes academic majors in Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Athletic Training, Sport Management and Physical Education; and our home athletic events.

Title: Head Women's Volleyball Coach
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Athletics

Augustana College seeks to fill a full-time position as Head Women’s Volleyball Coach.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will direct and oversee all aspects of the volleyball program. The candidate will identify, recruit, retain and develop student-athletes. The duties of the head women’s volleyball coach will be to build and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external constituencies. The head coach will manage all components of a nationally competitive NCAA Division II women’s volleyball program including compliance with policies and rules of Augustana College, the NCAA, and the NSIC Conference.

Additional duties will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the candidate. Additional duties may include a teaching assignment in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences as assigned by the Director of Athletics. 

Qualifications: 4+ years of collegiate coaching experience. Bachelor’s degree required. Previous head coaching experience and master’s degree is preferred. Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and a strong commitment to the academic and life skills development of student-athletes.

Athletic Information: Augustana College sponsors 18 athletic teams (9 men & 9 women) who compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and NCAA Division II. The women’s volleyball team trains in the 120,000 square foot Elmen Center and plays all home matches in the 4,000 seat Hall Sports Forum on campus.

Title: Chemistry Lab Instructor
Position Type: Part-Time
Department: Chemistry

Augustana Chemistry Department is seeking part-time lab instructor for General Chemistry and Survey of Organic and Biochemistry. Number of sections will depend on enrollments, but 2-3 lab sections per semester is anticipated. A bachelors degree in chemistry with teaching experience or a masters degree in chemistry is required.

General Chemistry 1 & 2: This is a typical general chemistry sequence that includes lecture and lab that is taken mostly by non-chemistry science majors. After Gen Chem 1 about half of the students will take the Survey of Organic and Biochemistry while the rest take Gen Chem 2. We use a lab manual produced in-house with specific experiments chosen by the lecture instructors. Labs are 2 hours and enrollments will be 20-24 students in each section.

Intro to Chemistry: This course is a fast-paced, one semester course that includes lecture and lab, primarily taken by Chemistry and Biochemistry majors. We use a lab manual produced in-house with specific experiments chosen by the lecture instructor.  Labs are 2 hours and enrollments will be 20-24 students in each section.

Survey of Organic and Biochemistry: This is a one semester course that includes lecture and lab for those seeking a health profession career that requires only one year of chemistry, including Nursing, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, and a few Biology majors. We use a lab manual produced in-house with specific experiments chosen by the lecture instructor. Labs are 2 hours and enrollments will be 20-24 students in each section.

Duties in all courses: Reagents and necessary equipment should be ready each week on a cart in the stockroom. The Lab Instructor is in charge of moving things from the cart to the lab, setting them up, presenting a pre-lab introduction, helping students through the lab, cleaning up and returning things to the cart, grading lab reports and providing scores to the lecture instructor. Undergraduate lab assistants (1-2) are also assigned to each lab section to help.  On the job safety training must be completed before running the first lab.

Augustana strives to provide a “personal touch” in our courses.

In that context the lab instructor is expected to get to know their students by name, to actively engage them during the lab - offering advice and answering questions - and to be prepared and willing to answer questions that relate to the lecture as well.

Lab instructors are invited but not required to attend the lecture associated with their course and to join the Chemistry faculty for monthly staff meetings and for Departmental seminars on Friday afternoons at 3 pm.

We anticipate a continuing need for lab instructors for these courses, so there is opportunity for continuing employment.

The Chemistry Department is an ACS Approved department with five tenure-track and one continuing-term faculty members. The department graduates 10 or so majors each year with 5-8 being ACS-approved degrees, including the ACS-approved Chemistry degree with an emphasis in Biochemistry. Title: Program Director/Assistant or Associate Professor of Athletic Training
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Exercise and Sports Science (ESS)

Augustana College seeks to fill a full-time position for Assistant or Associate Professor in Athletic Training. Our Athletic Training program is housed within the growing department of Exercise and Sport Sciences (ESS) and includes over 200 majors in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Physical Education and Sport Management. Excellent opportunities exist for collaboration with educational partners, health care agencies, and research centers in the Sioux Falls area.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates will possess a terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Athletic Training or a related field. A commitment to quality teaching and active participation in the Athletic Training profession is necessary. Prior administrative experience as Athletic Training Program Director is preferred. Applicants should have prior experience in maintaining CAATE accreditation standards. Candidates must be a BOC certified athletic trainer and be eligible for licensure as an athletic trainer in South Dakota. Evidence of college level teaching experience is required. For a tenure-track appointment, the candidate must also demonstrate commitment to professional scholarship and the ability to involve undergraduate students in research.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will serve as the Program Director of our CAATE accredited undergraduate Athletic Training program. The candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Athletic Training and other courses to support our other majors. Probable courses include, but are not limited to: Therapeutic Modalities in Athletic Training, General Medical Practicum, Administration in Athletic Training, Responding to Emergencies, Current Trends in Exercise and Sport Sciences. The candidate will also be assigned clinical duties, be expected to advise and mentor students, and to provide service to the college and community. The successful candidate will report to the Department Chair of Exercise and Sport Science and the Chair of the Natural Science Division.

Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Music, Director of Orchestras
Position Type: Full-Time

Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a candidate for a full-time tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Music, Director of Orchestras in the Music Department beginning Fall 2015.

Responsibilities:The successful candidate for this position will direct the Augustana Orchestras and be responsible for recruitment and retention of top quality string, wind, brass, and percussion students working in conjunction with the instrumental faculty. This dynamic candidate will also establish and maintain working relationships with state and regional instrumental teachers and high school orchestra directors. Additional responsibilities including applied instruction and academic courses will be dependent upon the qualifications and expertise of the applicant and the needs of the department and college. The successful candidate should establish and maintain a regional and national profile within the profession and actively pursue a scholarly/creative agenda as it relates to the mission of a liberal arts college.

Qualifications: Candidates should possess a doctorate (or terminal degree) in conducting and have demonstrated success in teaching and leading significant orchestra/string ensembles at the collegiate level and or public school experience as director of an established high school orchestra program (ABD considered).

Title: Assistant or Associate Profesor - Nursing
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Nursing

The Augustana College Nursing Department invites applications for tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor beginning Fall 2015.  A doctoral degree is required and the PhD in nursing or a DNP in a clinical specialty. If the doctoral degree is in a related field, the applicant must have a graduate degree in a nursing clinical specialty. Expertise in adult/gero and/or child health desired. Expertise in genetics and genomics a plus.

Responsibilities: Successful applicants will demonstrate strong commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment and may have opportunity to shape a new graduate program. Teaching responsibilities in didactic, clinical, and simulation laboratory required. Courses to be taught are dependent on specialization and interests of the successful applicant.

Title: Assistant Professor - Anthropology
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Anthropology

Augustana College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Anthropology beginning in September 2015.

Qualifications: PhD in Anthropology; evidence of effective college/university teaching; an active scholarly agenda; and a commitment to serving the campus and broader professional community.

Anthropology at Augustana College has a strong emphasis in the areas of cultural anthropology and archeology with a particular focus on the Northern Plains. The program also includes classes in Museum Studies. The anthropology program is enhanced by a close association with the Augustana College Archeology Laboratory and ongoing research activities at the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village site in Mitchell, South Dakota.

The successful applicant will teach a range of classes such as: Introduction to Anthropology; Introduction to Cultural Anthropology; Introduction to Archeology; Introduction to Archeological Field Methods; and Introduction to Biological & Forensic Anthropology. Additional classes will be assigned based on the candidate’s expertise. It is also expected that the applicant will assist in co-directing a summer archeological field school at the Mitchell site. Applicants should have an interest in four-field American anthropology. Tenure track position beginning in fall 2015. Ideal candidates should have a professional certification such as a CPA or CMA, and a Master's degree in accounting or a related field. Candidates with documented success as a baccalaureate-level instructor will be given preference. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching, scholarly and professional activities, and a willingness to be active in service to the college. Primary teaching responsibilities will likely include both introductory and advanced accounting courses and will be assigned based on the candidate’s expertise.
