The faculty are those who have been granted status as faculty members by the Board of Trustees upon recommendation of the President. The faculty shall consist of teachers with the ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or Instructor, and any other designated by the President.

Job Title: Assistant Professor of Government and International Affairs
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Government and International Affairs

Augustana University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Government and International Affairs, to begin in Fall 2018.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment. Courses to be taught will depend upon departmental needs and the candidate’s training and interests, but shall include offerings in U.S. constitutional law. In addition, the individual will serve as the university’s pre-law advisor.    

The typical load for members of the department is three courses per semester, plus a course in two out of every three January terms. The pre-law advisor is exempted from one of these courses annually.

Qualifications: Completed Ph.D. required. Evidence of teaching excellence and scholarly productivity expected. Ability to contribute courses to Augustana’s Civitas honors program and/or First Year Seminar program is a plus.

Job Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of English
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: English and Journalism

Augustana University invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track, Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of English and Journalism beginning in August 2018.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment. The preferred applicant should expect to teach courses in the FYS (First-Year Seminar) program, as well as literature components of the SOPHIA (general education) program, and the Civitas Honors Program. Additionally, the ideal applicant will have a background in multicultural literature and advanced composition. Knowledge of pedagogical approaches to young-adult literature is also desirable.

The typical load for members of the department is three courses per semester, plus a course in two out of every three January terms.

Qualifications: Completed Ph.D. required. Evidence of teaching excellence and scholarly productivity expected; capacity to engage in research and service; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and a commitment to serving the campus and broader professional community.

Job Title: Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Chemistry

Augustana University seeks to fill a tenure-track position in Analytical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August, 2018.

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include teaching general and analytical chemistry to majors and non-majors, developing a research program with undergraduates, and service to the Augustana community. There is also potential for contributing to the teaching of First Year Seminar (FYS) for the shared core curriculum. Job Title: Assistant Professor of Media Studies
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Communication Studies

The Communication Studies Department of Augustana University invites applications for a position of Assistant Professor of Media Studies, with emphasis in social media, beginning in the fall of 2018.

Responsibilities: This is a nine-month, full-time, tenure track appointment, with summer teaching possible. The primary emphasis is for this faculty member to provide theoretical sequencing and depth in the field of social/digital media. The candidate will be integral in maintaining and enhancing our new Media Studies (emphasis in social/digital media) program (begun in Spring 2016) that is centered in the Communication Studies department. The candidate will teach a balance of courses in traditional mass communication areas such as media and society and mass media effects, courses in social media and courses in areas of expertise.

The successful candidate will focus on how social media/digital technologies are affecting the collection, production, and dissemination of information and how these emerging technologies are affecting society. Augustana is looking for someone who integrates theoretical scholarship and practical application in social/digital media communication strategies. The candidate should be able to teach courses in our Communication Studies curriculum and in Augustana’s General Education program.

Required Qualifications: PhD in communication, mass communication or related field; ABD considered; evidence of effective university teaching; evidence of potential in the area of scholarship.
