Faculty Positions

The faculty are those who have been granted status as faculty members by the Board of Trustees upon recommendation of the President. The faculty shall consist of teachers with the ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or Instructor, and any other designated by the President.

Title: Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Athletics

Augustana College is currently looking for an individual to fill the position of full-time Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Duties: Participate with other Augustana College Strength and Conditioning Staff in day to day operations of two varsity weight rooms. Successful candidates will assist with the implementation of strength training, conditioning, linear and lateral speed development, flexibility, and recovery workouts for 3 to 5 sports programs. Additional responsibilities include weight room supervision, cleaning and upkeep of equipment, and any other duties or athletic teams assigned by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. There will also be occasional teaching responsibilities within Augustana’s HPER/EXER SCI Department.

Requirements: Masters Degree in Exercise Science, or related field. Experience in the collegiate setting and a strong desire to excel as a strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate level preferable. Must be able to work alone with groups, one on one or as part of a larger team. Exhibit diplomacy and tact while protecting confidentiality and a sense of humor. The ability to work early mornings, late nights and weekends as needed. Currently C.S.C.S or CSCCa certified. Additional preferred certification: USAW. All candidates must be CPR/AED certified.

Athletic information: Augustana College sponsors 18 athletic teams who compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and NCAA Division II. The athletic staff is located in the Elmen Center, the College’s athletic and recreation center. The athletic program is supported by more than 750 members of the Augustana Athletic Club and the broader Sioux Falls community of 160,000.

Reporting Relationship: Reporting to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, the Assistant Strength Coach is an integral component of a highly competitive NCAA Division II athletic program. The Assistant Strength Coach works closely with coaches, the Athletic Director, the Assistant Athletic Director and the Head and Assistant Athletic Trainers.

Compensation: Commensurate based on experience, full-time, 12-month employment with benefits.

Title: Head Women's Swimming Coach
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Athletics

Augustana College seeks to fill a full-time position as Head Women’s Swimming Coach.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will direct and oversee all aspects of the swimming program. The candidate will identify, recruit, retain and develop student-athletes.  It is important to note, the first-year of competition for the team will be the 2016-17 academic year. The duties of the head women’s swimming coach will be to build and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external constituencies.  The head coach will manage all components of a nationally competitive NCAA Division II women’s swimming program including compliance with policies and rules of Augustana College, the NCAA, and the NSIC Conference. Additional duties will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the candidate. Additional duties may include a teaching assignment in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences as assigned by the Director of Athletics. 

Qualifications: 4+ years of collegiate coaching experience.  Bachelor’s degree required. Previous head coaching experience and master’s degree is preferred. Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and a strong commitment to the academic and life skills development of student-athletes.

Athletic Information:  Augustana College sponsors 19 athletic teams (9 men & 10 women) who compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and NCAA Division II. The women’s swimming team will train in the indoor pool at the Elmen Center located on campus.

Salary: Competitive; dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Title: Spirits Squad Coach
Position Type: Part-Time
Department: Athletics

Augustana College seeks to fill a part-time position as Spirits Squad Coach overseeing both cheer and dance teams’ activities. The position will begin August 1, 2015.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the identification, evaluation and recruitment of potential dance and cheerleading student-athletes. Monitors the academic progress of each student-athlete in the program. Coordinates the physical development of each student-athlete through appropriate condition, strength, and practice sessions. Stands accessible to the media, alumni and general public to publicize and promote the program, in coordination with the Assistant Athletic Director of External Operations. Fiscally responsible for all areas of the spirit squad budgets, including budget proposal, accounting, and expenditures. Recommends and oversees the purchase of new spirit squad equipment, supplies and uniforms. Assists in the coordination of travel arrangements for road trips. Oversees the development of the schedule with the Assistant Athletic Director of External Operations and athletics marketing department. Supports the mission and vision of the College. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree preferred and prior experience as a head or assistant cheer or dance coach is preferred. A commitment to continued professional and scholarly growth is desired. A commitment to the mission and values of a church-related liberal arts college is expected.

Title: Program Director/Assistant or Associate Professor of Athletic Training
Position Type: Full-Time, 9-month Academic Appointment
Department: Exercise and Sports Science (ESS)

Augustana College invites applications for Assistant or Associate Professor in Athletic Training. Our Athletic Training program is housed within the growing department of Exercise and Sport Sciences (ESS) and includes over 200 majors in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Physical Education and Sport Management. Excellent opportunities exist for collaboration with educational partners, health care agencies, and research centers within the dynamic and ever growing sports and healthcare community of Sioux Falls.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates will possess a terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Athletic Training or a related field. A commitment to quality teaching and active participation in the Athletic Training profession is necessary. Excellent opportunities exist for the successful candidate to demonstrate leadership, innovation and creativity with curriculum design with our ESS faculty and existing community of sports health care professionals. Prior administrative experience as Athletic Training Program Director is preferred. Applicants should have prior experience in maintaining CAATE accreditation standards. Candidates must be a BOC certified athletic trainer and be eligible for licensure as an athletic trainer in South Dakota. Evidence of college level teaching experience is required. For a tenure-track appointment, the candidate must also demonstrate commitment to professional scholarship and the ability to involve students in research.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will serve as the Program Director of our CAATE accredited Athletic Training program. The candidate will develop and teach courses, advise and mentor students, and provide service to the college and community. The candidate will ensure that the program will remain compliant with CAATE accreditation standards and other regulatory requirements and must be committed to the advancement of the program and profession. The successful candidate will report to the Department Chair of Exercise and Sport Science and the Chair of the Natural Science Division.

Title: Assistant or Associate Professor - Nursing
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Nursing

The Augustana College Nursing Department invites applications for tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor beginning Fall 2015.  A doctoral degree is required and the PhD in nursing or a DNP in a clinical specialty. If the doctoral degree is in a related field, the applicant must have a graduate degree in a nursing clinical specialty. Expertise in adult/gero and/or child health desired. Expertise in genetics and genomics a plus.

Responsibilities: Successful applicants will demonstrate strong commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment and may have opportunity to shape a new graduate program. Teaching responsibilities in didactic, clinical, and simulation laboratory required. Courses to be taught are dependent on specialization and interests of the successful applicant.

Augustana’s progressive undergraduate nursing program is recognized for the excellence of its graduates and for its experienced, creative, and engaging faculty.  The Department of Nursing has both a traditional baccalaureate program and an accelerated curriculum for students with BA/BS degrees. Planning for graduate education and a genetic nursing certificate are also in the planning process.  Opportunities exist for international study and exchange opportunities for students and faculty. The Nursing Department celebrates 75 years of excellence in nursing education.  The nursing program has had a first-time NCLEX pass rate of 95-100% for several years.
