Augustana University (Sioux Falls, SD) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Psychology with expertise in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or a related area, to begin Fall 2026. A doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or a related area is expected by the position start date.
Teaching: We seek candidates who are passionate about excellent undergraduate teaching. The teaching load is 3 classes in Fall, 3 in Spring and 1 in January term. Faculty have their first January and subsequently every third January off from teaching to use the time for professional development.
Candidates applying for this position should be able to teach an undergraduate course in Psychopathology, plus at least one other course related to their specific area(s) of expertise.
In addition, candidates for this position should be able to teach at least one of the courses from this list: General Psychology, Lifespan Human Development, First Year Seminar, Statistics, or Research Methods.
Research: Augustana offers lab space and funding to support faculty research programs and travel to conferences. Our faculty work closely with our undergraduate students, serving as academic and career advisors and mentoring students in research. The ideal candidate will value serving as a mentor for undergraduate students and will have an active and productive research program that can engage students.
About the Department: The Psychology Department at Augustana University is a very collegial and supportive team of six full-time faculty members whose expertise span counseling, educational, social, cognitive, and developmental psychology and neuroscience. Psychology is popular among AU students as a major and as a minor. Students majoring in Psychology have the opportunity to graduate with an emphasis in counseling/clinical psychology, which incorporates a hands-on practicum experience at one of many locations in Sioux Falls, or with an emphasis in research, which includes a semester doing directed research in a faculty member’s lab and may include completing a culminating independent honors project. The Psychology Department faculty strongly value the liberal arts and value interdisciplinary connections in teaching and research. We contribute courses to interdisciplinary programs and minors including Neuroscience; Children & Youth; Aging Studies; Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies; and Genetic Counseling.
