Augustana Scholarships and Grants

The scholarship program at Augustana is made possible by the generous support from alumni, special friends of the College, corporations, and foundations. Through their dedication and generosity, students are realizing their dreams of a liberal arts education.

To be considered for scholarships at Augustana based on academic performance and/or talent requires a completed Application for Admission and Scholarship. Academic and talent scholarships are awarded only after an offer of admission has been made. In addition to the programs listed below, Augustana provides numerous academic and merit-based awards to qualified students. Students must earn at least a 3.0 GPA while enrolled at Augustana to maintain these scholarships in subsequent years.

Alumni Legacy Award Awarded to full-time, degree-seeking students whose parent, grandparent (beginning with new students enrolling in Fall 2012), or spouse earned a Bachelor's or Master's Degree from Augustana College. $500 per year, renewable Verify your eligibility with the Office of Admission or Financial Aid.
Augustana Academic Scholarships Awarded to new and continuing students on the basis of academic achievement. $1,000 to $11,000 per year, renewable Application for Admission and Scholarships. Priority deadline, March 15.
Augustana Athletic Grant Awarded to outstanding student-athletes; NCAA Division II, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Varies Contact the head coach. See Athletics Web site for contact information.
Augustana Camp Scholarship Continuing students who serve as camp counselors (and other camp related positions) in a Lutheran camp for at least six weeks during the summer. $500 per year of service Application form must be completed prior to start of camp, after receiving a position.
Augustana Leadership Award Awarded to students demonstrating strong leadership in school, church, and/or community activities. $1,000 per year, renewable Application for Admission and Scholarships. Priority given to those offered admission by February 1.
Augustana Grant Select high school graduates based on need. Varies, renewable Application for Admission and Scholarships. Must file the FAFSA.
Augustana Transfer Scholarship Awarded to select transfer students. $5,000 to $13,000 per year Application for Admission and Scholarships.
Citibank Endowed Scholarship Spouses and/or dependents of Citibank employees. Varies Complete the application by April 15 and return it to the Financial Aid Office.
Diversity Scholarships Full-time students who bring diversity to campus. Ethnicity and financial need are two of the factors considered. Varies, renewable Verify your eligibility with the Office of Admission or Financial Aid.
Dakota Corps Scholarship Priority given to Dakota Corps recipients with an ACT composite of 29 or higher and a GPA of 3.5 or higher, who agree to work in a high-need field in SD upon graduation. Full Tuition, two awarded Dakota Corps applications available from high school counselor and due February 1.
Family Tuition Grant Full-time students who have an immediate family member enrolled full-time at Augustana. $500 per year per family  member enrolled full time Verify your eligibility with the Office of Admission or Financial Aid.
Foreign Student Grant Awarded to international students, based on academic credentials. $10,000  to $14,000 per year, renewable Application for Admission and Scholarships. Priority deadline is March 15.
Fryxell Scholarship Awarded to freshmen interested in Humanities areas; preference given to English or journalism majors. $1,000 per year, renewable Must be offered admission to the College by February 1. Fryxell Application and Nomination Form should be returned to the Office of Admission by February 15.
Hatterscheidt Scholarship South Dakota residents who have at least a 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need. $1,500 per year, non-renewable Application for Admission and Scholarships and the Hatterscheidt Scholarship Application due by March 15. Contact the Financial Aid Office for application.
Haugo Memorial Scholarship Eligibility based on selected area of county residence, academic performance, and financial need. $3,500 per year, renewable

Kruse Leadership Award Awarded to students with Junior status during the 2014-15 school year who are engaged in leadership in the community $5000 renewable for the Senior year  Application must be submitted by April 14th.
Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship Based on performance or portfolio and potential as determined by application, audition, and/or interview. $1,000 to $5,000 per year, renewable Complete the PVA Scholarship Application online or download and submit the paper application. Must be offered admission to the College by February 10; audition application due by February 10.
Presidential Scholarship Awarded to students who possess a 27 ACT, 3.5 GPA. $11,000-$15,000 per year, renewable Application for Admission and Scholarships.
Distinguished Scholars Awarded to superior students through participation in the Distinguished Scholars Competition. Must possess a 27 ACT, 3.5 GPA Amounts range from $48,000 to full tuition, awarded over 4 years Application for Admission and Scholarships completed by February 10. On campus interview and essay required; limited to 225 candidates.
South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship South Dakota residents with an ACT composite of 24 or higher and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 who have met the SDOS curriculum requirements $5,000 over four years Applications available from high school counselor. Recommended submission by June 1, final due date is September 1.
Y.T. Johnson Science Day Scholarship Awarded to students planning to major in a science related field. Encouraged to attend Augustana Science Day. Must possess a 25 ACT and 3.5 GPA. $1,500 per year, renewable

Science Day Scholarship form and science teacher recommendation due by November 29. Application for Admission and Scholarships completed by January 1. Interview required. Contact the Office of Admission.
