First-Year Programs (Viking Voyage)
View the video from Welcome Week 2014.
First-Year Programs staff and services aim to support students in the transition from high school to college. In particular, our programs aim to help you: navigate your way around campus, develop new friendships, get connected with important campus resources, be mentored by upperclassmen students, build a connection to Augustana's values, begin to identify personal goals and aspirations, and much more. As a community, Augustana students and staff embrace a voyage of growth and development. First-Year Programs offers a way for students to launch their own Viking Voyage!
Viking Voyage programs include Welcome Week and two residence hall communities (Solberg Hall and Bergsaker Hall), each committed to helping students develop competencies, learn to think critically, and integrate socially and academically.

A key element to our history is that Augustana is a "student-driven" community. Students mentor each other and gain valuable experience practicing leadership skills so that upon graduation, they are prepared to be active in their organizations and communities. Viking Guides (Guides) are upperclassmen students who serve as important student mentors to first-year students. Guides are responsible for leading a small group of first-year students during Welcome Week and fall orientation activities. Once classes begin, Guides continue to work with their group by participating in the students' New Student Seminar (NSS) class. Throughout the course of the academic year, Guides will serve an integral role in the success of Campus Life programming with specialized training in the areas of orientation, transition, and retention. Thirteen residential Viking Advisors jointly serve as live-in staff members in the residence hall communities of Bergsaker and Solberg to provide floor leadership, programming, and more.
