The Augustana Bookstore offers extended hours for "Freshmen Parent Weekend"

— Friday: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
— Saturday: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

We welcome parents and family members of our new freshmen class (Class of 2017) to spend a weekend on the campus with sons and daughters. The schedule of activities for the weekend follows.

Friday, September 27

Rendezvous: 3:00 p.m., Back Alley (Morrison Commons). Just for those arriving early ― take in a popular Friday afternoon tradition on the campus sponsored by the International Programs Office. This week, our students from Ethiopia will explore their homeland with us by presenting a program about their people and culture.

Women’s Volleyball:  7:00 p.m., Elmen Center.  Experience NCAA II action as the Vikings take on NSIC conference foe, University of Mary. Tickets are available at the door or online.

Andy Stoll: Traveling the World:  7:30 p.m., Back Alley (Morrison Commons). Presented by UBG’s Culture & Fine Arts Board. Stoll delivers a 60-minute, high-energy, inspirational presentation about his 4-year, 40-country solo trip around the world.

Andy Stoll’s presentation is much more than just a travel slideshow. It’s an insightful, inspiring, entertaining and often hilarious look at what it takes to find our place in the world and make our biggest dreams come true.

Saturday, September 28

Parent Coffee with the Deans: 10:00 a.m., 3-1 Room (2nd floor of the Morrison Commons). Meet members of the College’s administrative staff responsible for the academic and student life programs. Learn about our intentional programming to support freshmen in their first months of college.

Gallery Exhibit: Noon – 5:00 p.m., Carl Grupp ’61, A Retrospective, Eide-Dalrymple Gallery (Center for Visual Arts).

A Retrospective celebrates the prolific life of one of South Dakota's preeminent living artists, Augustana Art Professor Emeritus Carl Grupp. On view will be paintings, drawings, watercolors and prints, many of which have never before been displayed.

The exhibition and a special reception for freshmen parents and their students is also on view at the gallery at the Center for Western Studies on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m.

Women’s Soccer: 1:00 p.m., Morstad Field. NSIC conference match versus Bemidji State University. No admission charge.

Women’s Volleyball:  4:00 p.m., Elmen Center. Cheer on the Lady Vikings as they take on the Beavers of Minot State University. Tickets available at the door or online.

Reception for Freshmen and Parents: 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., Carl Grupp ’61, A Retrospective, Center for Western Studies (Fantle Center).

Join us for fellowship and refreshments in a setting that highlights the Center for Western Studies’ rich exhibits and visual images of the history of the Dakota Territory. The evening also features an exhibit of art by one of South Dakota's preeminent living artists, Augustana Art Professor Emeritus Carl Grupp. A Retrospective offers a view of paintings, drawings, watercolors and prints.

UBG Film: Despicable Me 2: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Back Alley (Morrison Commons)

Swing by the Back Alley (Morrison Commons) for a family-friendly movie event. No admission charge.

Sunday, September 29

Brunch: 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Ordal Dining Room (Morrison Commons)

Experience Augustana’s Sunday brunch: $5.00 for family members, siblings 4 and under eat free.

Please note — we regret that complimentary meals for moms and dads are not available during the following weekends; Freshmen-Parent Weekend (Sept.), Viking Days Homecoming (Oct.), Christmas Vespers Weekend (Dec.) and Commencement (May). Our dining services staff hopes to see you enjoying occasional meals with your student.

Worship:  11:00 a.m., Chapel of Reconciliation

Recital: 3:00 p.m., Kresge Recital Hall (Humanities Center). Guest pianist, Juyeon Kang. No admission charge.
