Viking Days memories

Make plans to come home again and celebrate Viking Days with your alma mater! Join us for these special events during the week, and all of your favorites on the weekend. Viking Days — one of the best times to celebrate being an Augustana Viking!

  • Viking Feast (for the campus community): 5-7 p.m., Elmen Center. Viking Feast, the all-campus picnic, kicks off Viking Days week with dinner and fun for the whole family.
  • Coronation: 7 p.m., Elmen Center. Crowning of the Viking Days King and Queen. Lighting of the "A" to follow, outside the Elmen Center.
  • Float Building (for students): 4-7 p.m., under the tent, Commons Circle. Campus organizations participating in the parade will decorate and build the float they will show off to the community. Food and supplies are provided. It's a great way to get ready for the fun of the parade Saturday morning.
  • Gallery Reception: 7-9 p.m., Eide/Dalrymple Gallery, Center for Visual Arts. The introspective exhibition entitled "Ever I Know" by alumna Ahn Ta '14 will run Thursday, Oct. 18-Saturday, Nov. 10. This opening reception event will feature an artist's talk by Ta beginning at 7:30 p.m.
  • Exhibit: “Plain Views: Watercolors” by Judy Thompson: all day, Center for Western Studies.
  • Exhibit: “Ever I Know,” by Ahn Ta ‘14: all day, Eide/Dalrymple Gallery, Center for Visual Arts.
  • Honor Guard Coffee & Social Time: 9-11 a.m., Siverson Lounge, Morrison Commons. Honor Guard alumni are invited to begin the weekend with coffee and conversation with classmates. Honor Guard alumni are graduates from 1968 and earlier. Reunion photos for the classes of 1948, 1953, 1958 and 1963 will also be taken during the luncheon.
  • Chapel: 10 a.m., Chapel of Reconciliation. Join us for this festive worship service with senior speaker Taylor Mileham (music education and religion major from Brookings, S.D.) and The Augustana Choir.
  • Honor Guard Luncheon: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Falls Room, Holiday Inn City Centre (100 W. 8th St.)A festive luncheon for graduates who have celebrated their 50th class reunion, including members of the Class of 1968 who will be inducted into the Honor Guard at this event (and celebrating their 50th reunion this fall). Reunion photos for the classes of 1948, 1953, 1958 and 1963 will be taken at during the luncheon. Registration required, $22. Register today.
  • In Memoriam: 2 p.m. Class of 1968 gathers in the Chapel of Reconciliation to remember departed classmates.
  • Campus Tours: An afternoon tour begins at 3 p.m. at the Commons Concourse, Morrison Commons. Meet us at the Viking Days information table in the Commons for a group tour with a current Augustana student.
  • Rendezvous Presentation: Students typically present on their home countries at 3 p.m. on Fridays in the Back Alley. Hosted by the International Program Office and Augustana International Club, this event is free and open to the public.
  • Viking Women's Soccer vs. Minnesota Crookston: 4 p.m., Morstad Field. Free admission; no tickets required.
  • 50th Class Reunion Banquet (1968): 5 p.m. Social; 5:30 p.m. Dinner, Chef Dominique's Catering and Banquet Facility (230 S. Phillips Ave.). Your 50th reunion banquet registration also offers you free entry to the Blast, an all-Augustana celebration of Viking Days! Registration required, $40. Register today.
  • Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet: 5:30 p.m. Social; 6:30 p.m. Dinner, Starlite Room, Holiday Inn City Centre (100 W. 8th St.). Celebrate this year's Athletic Hall of Fame honorees at this annual banquet. Registration required, $35. Register today.
  • Viking Women's Volleyball vs. Minot State: 6 p.m., Elmen Center. Tickets are $7 or $4 for student (K-12) at
  • The Blast: An All-Augustana Reunion Event (recognizing the classes ending in 8 and 3): 6:30 p.m., Falls Room, Holiday Inn City Centre (100 W. 8th St.). We'll recognize the reunion classes ending in 8 and 3, but all classes are welcome and encouraged to attend. Registration required, $10 (in advance)/ $15 (at the door). Register today.
  • Langskip 5K: Race begins at 9 a.m. on the Augustana campus, starting at 29th Street and Summit Avenue. Proceeds benefit Augiethon, Sanford Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network. Register today.
  • Viking Days Pancake Feed: 9-10:30 a.m., Commons Drive and Grange Avenue. Come to the parade ready to eat pancakes and see faculty members (our guest pancake flippers!) from the Performing and Visual Arts departments. This is a fundraiser to benefit the Performing & Visual Arts. Tickets are $7 adults/ $5 kids (12 & under), available at the event.
  • Homecoming Parade: 10:30 a.m., University Place (formerly 28th Street) to 33rd Street on Grange Avenue.
    • To accommodate the parade, no parking will be allowed on the parade route effective 6 a.m. until the end of the parade.

  • Visit Heritage Park: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Heritage Park is a collection of historic Great Plains buildings dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Its facilities will be open for visitation and tours during Viking Days. Stop by Heritage Park, located on the south side of the Augustana campus, on your way to the football game. Here you will see the Rolvaag Writing Cabin, the Berdahl/Rolvaag House, Eggers Country School and Beaver Creek Lutheran Church. Admission is free.
  • Alumni Band Reunion/Pep Band Rehearsal: 11:15 a.m., Lillehaug Instrumental Room. Band alumni are invited to participate in the pep band, under the direction of Dr. Larry Petersen, during the Vikings football game.
  • Viking Days Tailgate and Augieville (formerly Vikingland): 11:30 a.m., outside Kirkeby-Over Stadium. Bring your family for lunch and games for the kids before the Vikings kickoff. Tickets will be available at the event.
  • 10th Class Reunion Tailgate (2008): 11:30 a.m., K-O Stadium. The Class of 2008 is invited to meet classmates on the party deck at the north end of the field (near the berm) before the game starts. Connect with old friends and get free popcorn! Free; registration is requested.
  • 25th Class Reunion Tailgate (1993): 11:30 a.m., Tent in Augieville outside Kirkeby-Over Stadium. The Class of 1993 is invited to a special tailgate lunch. Meet your classmates here before heading over to the football game. Free; registration is requested.
  • Viking Football vs. University of Mary: 1 p.m., Kirkeby-Over Stadium. Tickets are available at
  • Alumni Choir Rehearsal: 4:30 p.m., Hamre Recital Hall (formerly Kresge Recital Hall), Humanities Building. All choir alumni are invited to sing under the direction of Dr. Paul Nesheim, director of The Augustana Choir. Alumni will sing with The Augustana Choir at Viking Days worship on Sunday in the Chapel of Reconciliation.

  • Alumni Achievement Awards Dinner: 5:30 p.m. Social; 6 p.m. Dinner, Starlite Room, Holiday Inn City Centre (100 W. 8th St.). This is a special dinner event to honor our 2018 Alumni Achievement and Horizon Award winners. Registration required, $40. Register today.
  • Command Performance, featuring appearances by Augustana's bands, orchestra, choirs, percussion ensemble, Northlanders Jazz Band and more: 8 p.m., Mary W. Sommervold Great Hall, Washington Pavilion (301. S. Main Ave.) The 2018 Performing & Visual Arts Hall of Fame inductees will be recognized at this concert. Tickets are available online through the Washington Pavilion Box Office or by contacting 605.367.6000.
  • Alumni Choir Rehearsal: 8:30 a.m., Chapel of Reconciliation.
  • Viking Days Worship: 10 a.m., Chapel of Reconciliation. Join us for this festive worship service with campus pastor Rev. Ann Elizabeth Rosendale '04 and music by The Augustana Choir.
  • Viking Days Brunch: 11:30 a.m., Ordal Dining Room, Morrison Commons. Tickets are $14/adults and $8.25/kids under 12, and are available at the door.
  • Viking Women's Soccer vs. Bemidji State, 1 p.m., Morstad Field. Free admission; no tickets required.
