Biography 

Matthew Erickson serves the Augustana University School of Music as the manager of operations & community partnerships, director of instrumental studies, instructor of trombone & euphonium, as well as conductor for the Augustana Trombone and Brass Choirs.

 

Erickson earned a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of South Dakota and Master of Music in trombone performance from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. From 2000-22, Erickson served as a trombonist in the United States Air Force Bands, performing more than 1,800 engagements and entertaining millions, including five U.S. presidents and numerous international leaders.

 

In his leadership roles, Erickson directed global operations for three Air Force Bands, organizing performances across 45 countries and collaborating with artists from the New York Philharmonic to American Idol. As a trombone soloist, he has been featured on eight national tours and performed the Chris Brubeck Bass Trombone Concerto at Boston's Jordan Hall.

 

Passionate about brass chamber music and arranging, Erickson has led the Bay Colony Brass and seen his transcriptions performed nationwide. He has performed and presented masterclasses globally with renowned ensembles such as the San Antonio Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Omaha Symphony, South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra. Erickson is a S.E. Shires Performing Artist.
