Biography
Dr. Paul Egland teaches Introduction to Microbiology, General Microbiology and an FYS course, Intimate Strangers. Egland's research is focused on bacterial growth in biofilm communities. In addition, Egland serves as the chief health professions advisor, and is the pre-professional advisor for pre-dentistry and pre-medical students. Egland earned a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Iowa and worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Egland was the recipient of the Vernon & Mildred Niebuhr Faculty Excellence Award in 2016. He was elected to serve as Augustana faculty president in 2022.
