Biography
Scott Olson played trumpet with the South Dakota Symphony for 30 years, 24 as principal trumpet. He is principal trumpet with the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra, second trumpet with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and substitute trumpet with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. Olson was the band director at Mount Marty University for five years and directed the jazz band, taught brass methods and applied trumpet at Dordt University and applied trumpet at Northwestern College.
Olson is in demand as an adjudicator for area jazz festivals and brass clinician in the tri-state area. He is a regular participant at the Cathedrals of Saint Joseph in Sioux Falls and Saint Paul in Minnesota, where he has played for numerous festivals, ordinations and wedding masses. As a jazz performer, Olson can be seen performing as a charter member of the new jazz quartet, Prairie Groove.
