Dr. Barry Eichler is trained in inorganic chemistry. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Minnesota-Morris and his Ph.D. in inorganic (organometallic) chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has completed post-doctoral work at the University of California-Davis and held faculty positions at Minnesota State University-Moorhead and Northwest Missouri State University before joining the faculty at Augustana University in 2008.
Dr. Eichler was the Frederick C. Kohlmeyer Distinguished Teaching Professor at Augustana University from 2016 to 2018. With a focus on materials science, Dr. Eichler is using fluorescent quantum dots and nucleotide aptamers in the early detection of cancer. He is currently working on a project that allows the creation of fluorescent probes to detect prostate and pancreatic cancers that involves bioconjugation, cell culture, confocal microscopy, and immunohistochemistry.
