A financial aid appeal is a request for reconsideration of need-based financial aid at Augustana University. Financial aid appeals are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and require the student to have a valid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the University. While there is no specific deadline for requesting an appeal, we encourage you to make your request when specific financial data is readily available. We cannot make decisions on potential changes in the future.
Financial aid offers based on merit are not subject to change. Appeals are meant to provide information not initially captured through the admission application or FAFSA. Potential changes to your financial aid offer could be in the form of gift assistance, on-campus work, or loans.
Please provide the following for consideration:
- Letter of appeal requesting reconsideration of your financial aid offer. Provide specific information about your and your family’s financial situation. Include information relative to extenuating or special circumstances we are not aware of.
- Use the IRS data retrieval option within the FAFSA to link your tax information directly from the IRS. Data retrieval must be used for both student and parent tax information (assuming both filed a return). Or, you can submit a complete copy of your U.S. federal income tax return or a Tax Return Transcript (available at irs.gov/transcript or by calling 800.908.9946).
- Please provide copies of financial aid offers you’ve received from other schools.
Your letter of appeal and supporting documents should be sent to the Assistant Vice President of Financial Aid via scanned copy to email, fax, or postal mail. You may also request a secure upload link for submitting documents containing personally identifiable information. Contact information provided below. Appeals will not be reviewed until all requested documents have been received. Appeals typically take up to two weeks for review.
