40th Annual Artists of the Plains Art Show & Sale
Call for Artists:
The Center for Western Studies at Augustana University is now accepting artists' applications for the 40th Annual Artists of the Plains Art Show & Sale to be held November 6-8, 2020, at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Sioux Falls.
As a signature program of the Center for Western Studies, this event is designed to educate the public about the cultural importance and variety of regional art and artists. The largest and longest running show of its kind in the region, Artists of the Plains is an annual highlight of the Center’s Art Program and Educational Exhibits, one of several programming areas supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The hours of this year’s show will be:
- Friday, November 6, Premiere Showing: 5:00 - 9:00 p.m., with an awards program and special salute to forty years of celebrating art at approximately 8:00 p.m.
- Saturday, November 7: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- Sunday, November 8, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
The Center for Western Studies offers CASH AWARDS in the following categories: Two-Dimensional Best of Show ($200 first place and $100 second place) and Three-Dimensional Best of Show ($200 first place and $100 second place).
The show is a gift from the Center for Western Studies and its supporters to the artists and collectors of the Northern Plains. All staff time necessary to prepare, market, and conduct the show is underwritten by the Center’s operations budget and endowment. The Center does not take a commission on any artist’s sales.
To be considered for the 2020 show, complete the artist questionnaire and return it to CWS by August 14, 2020. Our visitors expect high quality and a variety of artwork at this show. Artists are asked to have a minimum of five original works for show and sale.
Given the unusual circumstances that 2020 presents, please note that special health and safety precautions will apply to this year's event. They will be dictated, in part, by Augustana University and by our venue, the Hilton Garden Inn. At this time, we anticipate that artists will be required to wear masks during sales hours. As social distancing will be difficult, masks will help our patrons feel safe. Artists accepted into the show will be required to sign a statement agreeing to follow these procedures. Patrons will be strongly encouraged to wear a mask.
If the show needs to be canceled for any reason, artists' booth fees will be refunded.
