Philosophy

Why study philosophy?

Students who study philosophy like to think about life’s deepest questions, take positions and support them, debate, argue, explore and wonder.

  • Philosophy, which means "love of wisdom," develops skills that are highly sought-after by employers, including critical and creative thinking skills, clear spoken and written communication and productive discussion.
  • The curriculum shares the historic and contemporary expression of philosophy, relates it to the student’s experience and encourages creative reflection.
  • Students broaden their intellectual horizons while heightening their moral sensitivity.
