The Augustana University History Department supports exploration of how historical events fit into the modern world in a rigorous, intellectual environment. Studying history is more than memorizing dates and battles, but better understanding the complexity of human behavior and what makes each situation instructive.

This summer, three Augustana students interned at national parks — caring for the nation’s natural and cultural resources while gaining hands-on conservation experience. Kaitlyn Crawford ‘26, Ian Kelly ‘26 and Emma Ostwinkle ‘25 spent their summers across the country applying what they’ve learned in AU classrooms to real-world experiences with the National Park Service.
Augustana is excited to once again host its annual Arthur Olsen Student Research Symposium, set to take place on Saturday, April 13, at the Froiland Science Complex, located on the university’s campus.
Augustana understands the value and impact that historically marginalized people have on communities all over the world — recognizing that this university would not be the place it is without these students, faculty and staff.
