Interdepartmental Minors: Aging Studies; Gender; Children & Youth
Three interdeparmental minors have an important connection to the sociology department:
- Aging Studies — Experiential/service learning with community elders and organizations that serve them is an active dimension of the Aging Studies (formerly known as gerontology) coursework.
- Gender Studies — Through the interdisciplinary minor in gender studies, students learn to analyze the ways in which notions of gender, race, class, and sexuality shape the world, and the ways in which the world, in turn, shapes these notions. Please contact the Gender Studies Faculty Lead, Dr. Carolyn Ly-Donovan at email@example.com for further details on current curriculum requirements.
- Children & Youth — This emphasis better prepares sociology majors for careers working with youth and children in the context of family, school, and community.
