Highlights, Special Features and Opportunities
Two minors have an important connection to the sociology department:
Gerontology—Experiential/service learning with community elders and organizations which serve them is an active dimension of the gerontology coursework.
Gender Studies—Through the interdisciplinary minor in gender studies, men and women learn to analyze the ways in which notions of gender, race, class, and sexuality shape the world, and the ways in which the world, in turn, shapes these notions.
In addition, Sociology majors often participate and/or hold leadership positions with Augustana student organizations like the Augie Women’s Coalition, the Augie Coalition for Social Justice, and the Augie Green student group.
